a brief account of the Black Death and its impact on english labor rules and its implications in medieval Europe

This article analyzes the impact of the Black Death on English labor legislation in the 14th century, highlighting the Ordinances of Labourers (1349) and the Statute of Labourers (1351) as governmental responses to the labor shortage caused by the pandemic. The research investigates the role of these legal instruments in consolidating state control over labor and assesses their historical effectiveness. Furthermore, it compares the English measures with similar legislation adopted in other European countries, such as Spain and France. Through a qualitative and documentary approach, the study contributes to the understanding of the origins of labor law and the legal transformations that arise in times of crisis.
