Labor compliance and corporate governance: a case study

This article examines, based on a case study adjudicated by the Brazilian Labor Courts, how structural failures in corporate governance, controllership, and auditing contribute to the deterioration of the work environment and to violations of fundamental labor rights. The study advances the hypothesis that weak internal controls and the omission of labor risk management intensify workplace harassment, wage delays, and contractual neglect, thereby giving rise to employer civil liability. The research adopts a qualitative methodology grounded in documentary and jurisprudential analysis, drawing on contemporary frameworks of corporate governance and labor compliance. The findings indicate that the lack of integration among governance, controllership, and audit systems undermines institutional sustainability and exacerbates the judicialization of labor relations. The article concludes that effective integrity policies and internal controls are essential instruments for safeguarding workers’ dignity and reinforcing the pedagogical function of labor justice.
